July 8th
It has been almost a week and Dad's massive stroke has continued to grow. He was coherent and communicating until yesterday. Yesterday he fell into a coma. Surgery would not benefit him at this time. The stroke has grown and swelled. It is now putting pressure on his brain stem which caused the coma.
We have talked and decided that if God wants to bless us with a miracle we will gladly accept, but if God wants to call his warrior home, then we understand that this is what Dad would want. He has talked for years about when God calls him he will go rejoicing. His faith in the Lord is incredible. He spends every morning reading the Bible and spreading God's Word with everyone he talks with. He is never afraid to show people the faith he has. The hard part is on all of the family. Not only is he my Daddy, but one of my best friends. We share so many things: love of Angels Baseball, fishing, camping, music, and so much more. He has been our rock for years, and it is time we be that rock for him. We would love to be selfish and have more time with him, but we need to put Dad first and think of him.
At this time he is stable and they are keeping him comfortable. He is not experiencing any pain. We are letting things run their course. Unfortunately it is still a waiting game. Thoughts and prayers are always appreciated. Thank you to all of you who have come out to support us. It means more than you could possibly know. I only pray that when the time comes I can return the favor. Please continue to pray for our family. We want what is best for Dad. Understanding with our heads is easier than accepting with our hearts.

My heart and thoughts are with you all Jen. I can only imagine how difficult the decision was for your family and completely support you all in the choice. All my love. Shannon
Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.
He was a pretty special guy. I can't imagine having a better father in law!
